Saffron cultivation developed in West Azerbaijan province

The head of the Agricultural Jihad Organization of West Azerbaijan,
noting that saffron cultivation was banned in the province until a few years ago, said:
But now saffron cultivation has been developed in West Azerbaijan and a contract has been signed with the research center in this field.

He added:
This amount is equivalent to four and a half million tons of crops, the most important of which is sugar beet,
which ranks first in the country, and one and a half million tons is the production of horticultural products
in 120,000 hectares of the province.

The head of West Azerbaijan Agricultural Jihad, noting that 1.1 million tons of West Azerbaijan agricultural horticultural products
In this regard, West Azerbaijan has the first rank in the country and also 150 thousand tons of horticultural agricultural products,
including stone fruits.

Referring to the amount of livestock production in the province, he said:
the amount of honey production is 22 thousand tons, in which West Azerbaijan ranks first.

Expressing satisfaction that West Azerbaijan has a lot to say in the field of conversion industries, he added:
In this regard, it is the second province in the country after Khorasan-e-Razavi and has the capacity to convert 4 million and 100 thousand tons
of agricultural products and in addition,
storage capacity of 940 thousand It has tons of refrigeration products that are unique in the country.

The head of the West Azerbaijan Agricultural Jihad Organization said:
Unfortunately, since 1397, drought has started in West Azerbaijan and neighboring provinces,
causing the average rainfall to rise from 385 mm to 340 mm and the temperature to rise by two degrees.

He said:
The second goal is to increase farmers’ incomes, that is, only by reducing water consumption,

because the shores of Lake Urmia are prone to the development of pistachio cultivation.

He added:
Fortunately, saffron is a very low-water but high value-added product and its market has no export restrictions.
