Production of 77% of Iranian saffron in Khorasan Razavi province
Nasser Tavakoli added:
South Khorasan province also gained the second place of the iran producers by producing 47 tons of saffron, ie 18% of the total production.
He stated:
Also, the provinces of Yazd, North Khorasan, Fars,
Isfahan and Kerman produce about 10 tons (4%) and other provinces of the country also produce 1% of the country’s saffron.
The Deputy Minister of Plant Production of the Ministry of Jihad for Agriculture stated:
At present, 73,119 hectares of the country’s lands are under saffron cultivation.
According to Tavakoli, out of the total lands of the country,
57 thousand 275 hectares, ie (78%) in Khorasan Razavi ,
12 thousand 990 hectares (18%) in South Khorasan and 2290 hectares (3%) in the provinces Yazd,
North Khorasan, Fars, Isfahan and Kerman and about one percent in other provinces are under saffron cultivation.
He said:
It is expected that 290 tons of saffron will be produced in the country this year and offered to domestic
and foreign markets, which will definitely be the main part of this year’s production in Khorasan Razavi .
Deputy Minister of Jihad for Agriculture stated:
At present, Iran is the largest producer of saffron in the world with 254 tons of production,
so that last year the total production of saffron in the world was 274 tons,
of which 92% was produced by Iran and 8% by other countries.
