Production forecast of 400 kg of saffron in Kermanshah

Ayatollah Mostafa Ulama, visiting the saffron farms in the province, stressed the need to pay more attention to the agricultural sector, said: In the province, conditions are ready for the development of the agricultural sector.

He added: Kermanshah province has suitable land, water and climatic conditions for the development of the agricultural sector and the correct use of these resources can lead to the development of the province’s agricultural sector.

Ayatollah Ulema also pointed to the quality of saffron produced in the province and said: Considering the high price of saffron, the development of cultivation of this product can have a good income for farmers.

Khosrow Shahbazi, head of Kermanshah Jihad-e-Keshavarzi, in this visit, referring to the prosperity of saffron cultivation in the province since 1390, said: Until last year, the area under saffron cultivation in the province was 105 hectares, but with the development this year, another 106 hectares were added to this area. We currently have 211 hectares of saffron cultivation in the province.

Shahbazi announced the average harvest of saffron from the farms of the province as four kilograms per hectare and said: considering that the new farms have not been produced yet, it is predicted that we will have 400 kilos of saffron production in the province this year.

He pointed to the suitable conditions of the province for saffron production and said: There is a potential to produce up to 30 kilos of saffron per hectare in the province.

Shahbazi also pointed to the quality of saffron produced in the province and said: the quality of saffron in the province is equal to the saffron produced in the provinces of Khorasan.

He also referred to the development plans of saffron cultivation in the province and said: According to these plans, saffron production in the province will grow significantly in the not so distant years.
