The head of the Jihad Agricultural Organization of Yazd province, referring to the beginning of the red gold harvest season in this province, predicted that 1,500 kilograms of saffron would be harvested from Yazd farms this year.

Seyed Jamal Sajjadipour clarified in this regard: 420 hectares of farms in the province are under saffron cultivation, and Bahabad city, with 265 hectares of farms producing this product, has the largest share in saffron production in the province.

He added: Bafgh, Mehriz and Abarkooh cities are other major producers of saffron in the province, respectively.

The head of Jihad Keshavarzi of the province, pointing out that Yazd has the seventh rank of saffron production in the country, said: Saffron of Yazd province has a relatively high quality and considering that it is a low-water crop, 50 hectares of agricultural lands in this The product is added in the province.

He stated that this product is recommended to Yazdi farmers due to the water shortage crisis and the suitability of the province’s soil, adding that the saffron plant has a seven-year yield, and after that, its onion must be replanted to yield again.

Sajjadipour pointed out that 4.5 kg of saffron is harvested from each hectare of agricultural land in the province, noting: Of course, harvesting saffron is a difficult task, but nevertheless, 4,000 people in the province are currently working in the production and harvesting of saffron.
