Planting the first saffron in Sistan and Baluchestan
Pilot cultivation of saffron was carried out in northern Sistan and Baluchistan.
This cultivation has been carried out in five hectares of the northern provinces of the province.
In July last year, saffron cultivating land was set up in five northern provinces of the province, and then onion saffron from Birjand arrived in the area, according to ZABL’s Directorate for the Promotion of Zabul Jihad Agriculture Management.
Saffron bulbs were planted on ready-made land, Bahrami said, “Each bulb onion is planted at a depth of 20 cm and spaced three to five centimeters apart.
He added: “Given the scarcity of water in the region and the lack of water for saffron, production of this economic product can help farmers livelihood.
The head of the Zabul Agricultural Jihad Advocacy Development Directorate predicted that 10 hectares of saffron would be obtained from each hectare of cultivated saffron land.
The north of Sistan and Baluchestan has five Zabol, Zahak, Hirmand, Hamoon and Nimrooz areas, and in the past two decades, agriculture has faced numerous problems due to lack of water.
