High drop in saffron prices
The vice-president of the Saffron National Council announced a reduction of 500 thousand toomans per one kilogram of saffron in the market and announced: “As the harvest season approaches, prices are falling further.
According to Mohsen Ehtesham, in an interview with Mehr, referring to the approaching harvest season of saffron, he said: Prices are not stabilized in the current market, and from 20 days ago, saffron has been reduced by 500 thousand toomans to 2 million and 500 thousand toomans per kilogram.
He added: “Forecasting the current situation and fluctuating prices is difficult because global markets are also affected by the harvest season with lower prices.
The vice president of the Saffron National Council, saying that 150 tons of saffron were produced last year, said that the production of saffron is expected to increase this year, which is why prices are more likely to decrease.
Ehtesham said: “The farmers’ consideration of saffron bulbs and good weather conditions is one of the factors that increase saffron harvest this year.
He said about 99 percent of organic saffron production is due to the fact that the farms are often family-owned and small, with no fertilizer fields.
He added that toxic substances are not used in saffron cultivation, so a large amount of this product is organic. He said that 95 percent of the world’s saffron is produced in Iran, saying that improper management of this product has caused countries like Spain to buy this product and sell it in their own name.
Vice President of the Saffron National Council added: Iran is currently cultivating Iran’s saffron bulbs in Afghanistan, which can be created with proper management to produce them for Iran, and this neglect becomes an opportunity.
Referring to a reduction in the weight of saffron exports, he said, rising prices and reducing consumption in the global markets were factors that reduced the export of saffron last year.
Iranian saffron has been facing many problems since the custodians neglected this product for several years. More recently, fake saffron derived from a mixture of mud flowers and corn gobs with saffron, which is painted with synthetic materials, has become a problem for producers and consumers.
