Harvesting 120 kg of saffron from 40 hectares of farms in Rafsanjan
Hossein Rezaei, on the sidelines of a visit to a saffron farm in the Khonaman region, said: In addition to economic prosperity, saffron cultivation has created employment in the region.
The director of Jihad Keshavarzi of Rafsanjan city stated: this year it is predicted that 120 kg will be harvested from 40 hectares of saffron cultivation area in the city; This year, 50 tons of onions have been planted and new lands have been planted.
He said: about seven hectares have been cultivated this year and on average between seven to 10 hectares are added to the cultivated area of ??the city annually.
Referring to the appreciation of saffron, Rezaei said: It costs 2.5 to 3 dollars per cubic meter of water consumption, which has caused farmers to cultivate saffron.
He continued: in the field of medicinal plants, its development and promotion has been done so that barberry, rosemary and jujube are responsible in the region and the government provides very good support.
Rezaei, pointing out that we have 80,000 hectares of pistachio cultivation in the city, added: Next year, we have a very good forecast for pistachio production.
He said that the lack of water has made farmers welcome alternative crops and they are also very interested in the field of fisheries, which we hope will have the development of alternative crops along with pistachios, he added: We have modified with new breeds that we can use for breeding.
Rezaei noted: Experts are at the service of farmers to provide them with technical knowledge, and facilities are being provided so that alternative crops can flourish.
