Experimental harvest of saffron in Zabol city
The head of the Zabol Agricultural Jihad Extension Office said: the saffron harvest from the lands under experimental cultivation of this crop began in Zabul.
Bahrami added: Due to the compatibility of saffron with the climate of northern Sistan and Baluchestan and in order to encourage farmers, saffron pattern cultivation began three years ago in 2 hectares of land in Qasemabad village of Benjar.
Bahrami, stating that free saffron onions have been distributed among farmers, added: On average, each farmer has allocated 2,000 square meters of his land to cultivate this plant.
He advised farmers in the northern region of Sistan and Baluchestan to change their cultivation patterns due to recent droughts.
Bahrami said: the average harvest of saffron in the country is 6 kg per hectare and the life of saffron onions is 7 years.
