Beginning of saffron harvest from 36.5 hectares in Pakdasht

The director of Jihad Keshavarzi of Pakdasht city said: the harvest of saffron started from 36.5 hectares of Pakdasht agricultural lands.

Mahmoud Amiri said: the history of saffron planting in Pakdasht dates back to 17 years ago and now the area under cultivation of this product has reached more than 36.5 hectares, which is the highest level of saffron farms in Kahrizak village of Sharifabad district.

He added: 219 thousand kilograms of saffron onions are grown annually in the farms of Pakdasht city.

The director of Pakdasht Jihad-e-Agriculture stated that most of the saffron cultivation in Pakdasht is done in the traditional way: At present, out of a total of 36.5 hectares of land under saffron cultivation, 420 square meters are cultivated in a new greenhouse and the rest in a traditional It is planted and harvested.

Amiri said that the average harvest of saffron flowers per hectare is 10 kg and added: in the traditional method, 16 grams of saffron is produced from each kilogram of onion.

He specified: saffron is planted in June to September and is harvested in November and December.

The director of Pakdasht Agricultural Jihad stated: At present, 12 saffron producers are active in the city and 9,125 people are temporarily working in saffron farms.

He announced the creation of employment for saffron cultivation per hectare as 250 people per day.

Amiri said: Pakdasht is the only city in Tehran province that has a license to produce saffron mother onion.

The official added: Pakdasht city with a cultivated area of ​​36.5 hectares out of a total of 188 hectares of saffron cultivated lands in Tehran province, has the second rank in the province.
