33% increase in Iranian saffron exports

Iran is the largest producer of saffron in the world and has about 90% of the production of this product; However, due to problems such as instability of saffron prices, sharp fluctuations in currency prices and brokerage and export intermediation of this product has not developed much.

In fact, saffron exports to Iran are mostly in bulk, and the countries that buy most of the saffron produced in Iran in the form of new packaging, in their own name in the global markets and receive huge profits.

according to this; A review of the latest customs statistics on Iran’s foreign trade shows that in the first five months of this year, 95 tons and 831 kilograms of saffron worth $ 123 million and $ 730,472 were exported.

Spain, UAE, Italy, USA, India, France, Canada, Germany, UK, Hong Kong, Pakistan, Australia, Iraq, Oman, Bahrain, Austria, South Africa, Netherlands, Japan, New Zealand, Czech Republic, Vietnam, Taiwan , Qatar and Kuwait are among the buyers of Iranian saffron.

In the same period last year, 69 tons and 486 kg of saffron worth 92 million 904 thousand 484 dollars were exported.

Thus, statistics show that saffron exports in the first five months of this year, compared to the same period last year increased by 37% in terms of weight and 33% in terms of value.

Of course, as activists in this field say, the increase in saffron exports has been due to the intervention of some people in order to provide foreign exchange.

Ali Hosseini, a member of the National Saffron Council, recently told Mehr that saffron exports have been taken out of the hands of real exporters: Exports of this product have grown this year; However, we believe that this export was not for the main exporters and investors, but for the supply of foreign exchange, some people export saffron who are not experts and have competed destructively in the world markets with real exporters, which will affect our exports in the coming years. It causes serious damage.
