Saffron was harvested for the first time in Gachsaran city
Gachsaran farmers who have already experienced the cultivation and harvesting of various crops have started to produce expensive saffron products this time.
Farmers hope that since the saffron crop does not require much money for transportation due to its light weight and the onion of this crop is cultivated once and can be harvested for up to seven years, they can earn a good income by producing saffron.
They believe that the production of saffron as an expensive product that has many medicinal and food uses is very attractive to them.
Experts in the field of agriculture, the possibility of cultivation in arid areas due to the need for low water and the availability of productivity in poor soils are among the benefits of saffron production. Saffron is cultivated in different ways. In modern cultivation, 10 kg per hectare and in traditional cultivation, 6 kg of onions are planted per hectare of farm.
This year, the minimum purchase price per kilogram of saffron flowers has been set by activists, traders and exporters at 1.5 million Rials, the minimum purchase price per kilogram of saffron straw is 160 million Rials and the minimum purchase price per kilogram of gem is 200 million Rials.
Saffron production in Iran
In 1397, the area under saffron cultivation in Iran was 111,000 hectares with a production of 380 tons, of which 281 tons worth $ 386 million were exported.
In 1398, the area under saffron cultivation in the whole country increased to 120,000 hectares and its production increased to about 450 tons, of which 270 tons worth 262 million dollars were exported.
Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, director general of the Housing Foundation of the Islamic Revolution, said: In the framework of the rural system plan that is being implemented by this institution, a memorandum of understanding has been signed with the mother industry farm to support saffron cultivation in Gachsaran.
The project of sustainable development of the rural system with the participation of the Housing Foundation of the Islamic Revolution, Agricultural Jihad, Omid Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Entrepreneurship Fund in Gachsaran has been implemented since 2009. In this plan, villages are formed separately based on climatic conditions, geographical location and capacities, and each of them becomes cultural, agricultural, industrial and economic hubs.
Hossein Jannati stated: The operators applying for saffron cultivation in Gachsaran, in cooperation with the Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Entrepreneurship Fund, will receive cheap banking facilities.
He emphasized: buying saffron onions, training and marketing assistance are support programs for saffron cultivation in this city.
He stated: 2,500 kilograms of saffron onions were distributed among farmers and farmers in Gachsaran in October of this year for cultivation. He said: 28 applicants cultivated saffron in 14 villages of Gachsaran, including Anjirsiah, Dale, Aro, Chaharbisheh Olya and Sofla, Marin, Imamzadeh Jafar, Pashkan, Pakoh, Abrigun and Genaveh, Abchirak, Mozaffarabad Islam Abamabad Saffron.
Jannati stated: The village of Black Figs was selected as the only saffron crop village and 14 farmers in this area experimented with saffron cultivation.
He announced the price of each kilogram of saffron onion in the market as 125 thousand Rials and said: This is while the Housing Foundation offered this amount to the users at the rate of 55 thousand Rials.
Jannati said: due to the welcome of farmers, 10 tons of saffron onions will be distributed among the farmers of this city next year. Gachsaran agricultural jihad expert said: saffron was harvested for the first time in Gachsaran.
Ali Hassan Ansari stated: Saffron was cultivated in one hectare of agricultural lands of this city in the form of a sustainable rural system plan.
He specified: it is possible to cultivate saffron in all villages of four villages of this city. Ansari stated: The average production of saffron per hectare is four kilograms.
He added: the amount of saffron production in the first year of cultivation is 200 grams per hectare and in the second year is 2 kg and the average harvest per hectare is 4.8 kg.
Ansari stated: Saffron onion can be harvested for up to seven years after planting. Annually, more than 96,000 tons of various agricultural and livestock products are produced in Gachsaran city, but according to experts in the field of agriculture, diversification of production is one of the needs to increase the income of farmers.
Saffron production in other areas of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad
The head of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Agricultural Jihad Organization said: There are 8.37 hectares of saffron farms in the province. Elias Taj Al-Dini stated: Boyer-Ahmad, Kohgiluyeh and Gachsaran counties are among the saffron production areas in the province.
He emphasized: low need for water, export-oriented, numerous nutritional and medicinal values ??are the benefits of saffron, which has made it possible to cultivate it in many parts of the country. According to official statistics, 50,000 Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad households are currently operating on 270,000 hectares of agricultural land, which results in 910,000 tons of produce per year. The province has 270,000 hectares of agricultural land, of which 160,000 hectares are agricultural.
