Saffron production in Abarkooh city increased by 15%
The head of crop production of Abarkooh Agricultural Jihad, referring to the end of the saffron harvest season in this city, said: 400 kg of dried saffron was harvested from 100 hectares of cultivated area, which is a 15% increase compared to last year.
Hassan Zare mentioned the average production of this product as four kilograms per unit area and in some farms of the city as 5.5 to 6 kilograms.
He pointed out that the highest area of ??cultivation of this plant is located in Faragheh district of the central part, and said: Currently, 200 farmers in the agricultural sector are active in the cultivation and production of saffron.
According to the farmer, saffron onions are planted in September and the harvest of previous years continues from mid-November to late December. It is expected that in 1400 the area under cultivation of this plant will increase by 120% to 120 hectares.
Responsible for the plant production of Abarkooh Agricultural Jihad, the lack of demand for some products, including saffron, which is compatible with the climatic conditions of the region and along with added value, was the reason for the increase in the area under cultivation of this plant.
He added: Farmers who cultivate and increase the area under their farms receive a loan of 700 million rials per hectare. Applicants can apply to the Jihad Keshavarzi management for facilities with a five-year repayment.
