Farshid Manouchehri stated: This year, as in previous years, the level of saffron cultivation in the country has increased; So that 90,000 hectares of this crop have been cultivated in two provinces of Khorasan Razavi and South Khorasan.
While last year the area of ??saffron cultivation in these two provinces was 83,000 hectares, and due to favorable weather conditions and increased rainfall in the spring of this year, saffron production is expected to reach 340 to 350 tons this year.
He added: This amount of production is more than global consumption and officials should think of measures to organize production and saffron market and increase its consumption.
The Secretary of the National Saffron Council stated: The most important uses of saffron are in the field of pharmaceutical, cosmetic and health industries, which are increasing in the world today. While in Iran, the least research and investment has been done in this field.
Manouchehri emphasized: the officials should pay attention to the fact that in this field, special budgets should be allocated to research in this field so that we can organize saffron production and market as a strategic and valuable product while providing more currency for the country.
He continued by stating that the price of saffron has not changed this year compared to last year and is offered at about six to 6.5 million Tomans per kilogram: Currently, the average saffron harvest in the two provinces of Khorasan Razavi and South Khorasan is three kilograms per hectare.
While it can be easily increased to five to eight kilograms through the proposed saffron designs, and if this important thing is achieved, it can be said that saffron producers will reduce their production costs by half and we can consume it by increasing the supply. Also increase in the world.
