Production of 172 kg of saffron in Hamadan province
Department of Horticulture Affairs of Hamadan Jihad-e-Agriculture Organization said:
it is predicted that 172 kg of saffron will be produced in the province this year.
Rahim Bayat, stating that 162 kg of saffron was produced from 48 hectares last year, added:
It is predicted that the area under cultivation of this crop will increase to 53 hectares this year and the production will reach 172 kg.
He pointed out that the total area of saffron cultivation in the country in 1391 was about 79 thousand hectares with a production of 60 tons, said:
The main producer of this plant is Khorasan Razavi with 78% and South Khorasan with 18% and the remaining 4% belongs to To the provinces
of Kerman, Isfahan, Hamadan, North Khorasan and Fars.
He stated that saffron is less expected than other plants, he said:
This plant is very durable and has a shelf life of five to 10 years in the soil, but its optimal yield is between three to seven years.
Bayat mentioned the propagation of saffron onions as one of the most important benefits of this plant and said:
the cost of planting this crop in the first year is high, because each hectare needs three to five tons of onions.
Also, considering that harvesting this product requires a lot of labor, so it should be harvested as a family.
He considered saffron as a plant of the lily family and specified:
the main origin of this plant has been introduced to Asia and Iran and China,
so that our country has between 80 to 89% of world production and is the first producer.
