Production forecast of 300 kg of saffron in Kermanshah

The expert in charge of medicinal plants and saffron of Kermanshah Jihad Agricultural Organization said: the development of saffron cultivation in this province is being pursued.

Safdar Rostami stated: At present, 92 hectares of lands in Kermanshah province are under saffron cultivation, of which 12 hectares have been cultivated this year between June and September.

Rostami considered the exploitation period of saffron to be seven years and added: saffron has a low production from the first year of planting.

The expert in charge of medicinal plants and saffron of Kermanshah Agricultural Jihad Organization stated that the average yield of saffron in Kermanshah province is 3.5 kg per hectare and predicted: 300 kg of saffron will be produced in this province this year.

Rostami stated that the area under saffron cultivation in Kermanshah province last year was 80 hectares and added: Last year, 265 kg of saffron was harvested in this province.

Rostami, stating that saffron cultivation is currently done in 12 cities of the province, said: The highest area under saffron cultivation in the province is allocated to Kermanshah city.

Referring to the beginning of saffron harvest in the province in early November, he said: saffron harvest is done in cool weather and it is expected that this year the harvest will continue until about November 10.

The expert in charge of medicinal plants and saffron of Kermanshah Jihad Agricultural Organization described saffron cultivation as a vessel with low water requirement and added: saffron needs only one irrigation and then uses rain water and in this regard the development of its cultivation It is important for water resources management.

Rostami, referring to the development of saffron cultivation in Kermanshah province since 1389, said: The development of saffron cultivation in this province is supported and the necessary facilities are provided to applicants.

Rostami, stating that historical evidence indicates the cultivation of saffron in this province in the past 2500 years, described Kermanshah province as the origin of saffron cultivation in the country and said: The history of saffron cultivation in other provinces and even Khorasan dates back to 700 years ago.
