Prediction of harvesting 170 kg of saffron in Hamadan province
Hamadan Jihad Keshavarzi Deputy Director of Horticulture of Hamadan Province announced the forecast of 170 kg of saffron harvest this year.
Rahim Bayat, stating that the saffron harvest has started this year from the beginning of November
and will continue until the end of this month, added:
it is predicted that 170 kg of saffron will be harvested in 45 hectares of saffron cultivated lands this year.
He continued:
Last year, 154 kg of saffron was harvested in 42 hectares of cultivated lands.
Bayat announced:
Saffron is cultivated in all cities, but Malayer has the highest amount of cultivation.
The Deputy Director of Horticulture of Hamadan Agricultural Jihad, referring to the decrease in rainfall and drought in the province, stated:
Saffron is a low-water crop and can replace crops such as alfalfa and watermelon in the province, which have the highest water consumption.
Pointing out that according to the historical documents of Hamadan, it has been the cradle of saffron production and cultivation in the country,
Bayat added:
This product can be easily cultivated in Hamadan due to the favorable climate and suitable soil,
and we should try to re-cultivate this crop.
He asked farmers to move to saffron cultivation because the added value of this product is more than other products.
Bayat pointed out:
Of course, one of the problems that farmers have in growing saffron is that the onion needed for cultivation is not easy
to buy and needs to obtain its own permits. On the other hand, saffron cultivation requires up-to-date knowledge and high labor force.
