Planting saffron in Qazvin province
According to the provincial news agency of the young journalists’ club of Qazvin, Deputy Director of Plant Production at Jihad-e-Agriculture Organization of the province said about 30 hectares of province farms in Takestan and Bouyin Zahra provinces were cultivated under saffron cultivation. Akbari added that the average yield of this product is five to six kilograms per hectare and is expected to produce more than 150 kilograms of saffron in the province.
Akbari stated that saffron in Qazvin province has a very good color, taste and aroma, said: Saffron bulbs are now produced in the province itself, and even some other provinces supply them with onions from the province.
The cultivation of saffron in Qazvin Province begins in the summer and farmers harvest it late in November.
According to the Deputy Director General of the Agricultural Jihad Agriculture Organization, providing resiliency loans to saffron farmers has been one of the most important factors in promoting the cultivation of this product.
Saffron is 12 years old cultivated in Qazvin province.
