Health – Blood-forming saffron and protector of brain cells
A neuroscientist at the University of Alberta in the United States has discovered that a key ingredient in saffron can protect brain cells from neurological diseases and inflammation.
In our experiments, we noticed the presence of a compound in this fragrant spice called crocin, said Dr. Chris Power, who led the study at the university. Further studies have shown that the compound has a significant protective effect on brain cells in brain culture media and can actually prevent damage to the cells that make up the myelin sheath for neurons (nerve cells).
According to the Associated Press, these tests show the potential of crocin combination in the prevention and treatment of inflammatory and chronic brain diseases.
One of the most important properties of saffron is the treatment of depression. Saffron has a strong smell and bitter taste. Drinking saffron tea causes digestion, has a pain relieving effect, stimulates the nerves. In addition, saffron is blood-forming and facilitates blood circulation. Consumption of saffron eliminates postpartum hemorrhage, cleanses and strengthens the liver, relieves cough and has a beneficial effect on the treatment of bronchitis.
A description of the above experiments is provided in the Journal of Immunology.
