Hamedan province land suitable for planting saffron
Deputy of Agricultural Affairs Department of Jihad-e-Agriculture of Hamedan province said: Due to the limited resources of saffron cultivation, one of the most profitable activities along with other activities is Hamedan farmers, which should be considered.
Rahim Bayat, in a conversation with the tasnim correspondent in Hamedan, said that now 60 hectares of agricultural land in Hamedan province is under cultivation of saffron, which is harvested about 200 kilograms of crop.
He said that last year, about 54 hectares under cultivation of saffron, which was harvested about 178 kilograms of crop.
Bayat, pointing out that Hamedan climate is susceptible to cultivating saffron, said that the resistance of this plant to dehydration and cold due to the geographical location of the province could be one of the pillars of agricultural development in Hamedan.
The head of agriculture affairs of the Agricultural Jihad Department of Hamedan province said that the saffron plant is susceptible to growing in most agricultural lands that are not rich in soil and water. The main problems of saffron are Hamedani’s lack of saffron onions, which should be provided by Khorasan province.
Bayat said: There is no saffron onion in Hamedan province and it is not possible to import saffron onion in the unlicensed province of Khorasan province, which has prevented the cultivation of saffron in Hamedan province.
He said that the province of Khorasan was not interested in developing the cultivation of this product in other provinces, said that this has not caused an increase in the cultivation of this product in Hamedan province and other provinces during the last few years, and only 5 hectares per year to cultivate this The product is added in non-Khorasan provinces.
The deputy director of the gardener of the Jihad-e-Agriculture Organization of Hamedan province said: “Another problem is the high prices of saffron saffron onion, and to cultivate a hectare of land, three to five tons of saffron onion is needed.
Beat, referring to the fact that the flowering of saffron begins in early November, added: “The cultivation of saffron in Hamedan province begins in September, and after planting until the end of September, as well as in October, only two irrigation is required.
He said saffron is a plant that does not have a product in the first year but can be harvested in the following years and for up to 6 years, which is one of the most important characteristics of the cultivation of this product.
The deputy director of agricultural Jihad-e-Agriculture, Hamedan Province, said that about 4 to 5 kilograms of land would be produced per hectare, emphasizing that the development of saffron cultivation in low-water and dry provinces could boost the country’s economy.
