Export of 85% of South Khorasan saffron to European countries
The Vice President of the National Saffron Council said: Currently,
more than 24,500 farmers are working to produce saffron in South Khorasan,
85% of that’s exported to eu nations
and the Persian Gulf and neighboring provinces.
Ehtesham added:
The area under cultivation of this product in South Khorasan is more than 10 thousand hectares with an annual production of about 50 tons,
which is the first rank of quality and the second rank of production of this product in the country.
He announced a 19 percent increase in saffron exports in the country in the first three months of this year and specified:
The elimination of saffron export duties for packages over 30 grams,
has caused Iran’s saffron exports to increase by 19 percent in the first three months of this year.
He said that the area under saffron cultivation in the country is 85,000 square meters, adding:
250 tons of saffron is produced annually from these lands,
while the amount of saffron exports is less than its production.
The Vice President of the National Saffron Council,
noting that this council has followed the discussion of the national saffron brand, added:
This week, the registration of saffron genetics and the registration of its geographical brand are underway.
Ehtesham also reminded:
South Khorasan was one of the first provinces to develop the brand of barberry and saffron,
but no budget has been allocated to this province to implement this branding.
