Export of 85% of Khorasan Razavi saffron to 53 countries
The Deputy Minister of Plant Production of the Khorasan Razavi Agricultural Jihad Organization also announced the export
of 80 to 85% of the province’s saffron products to 53 countries.
Mahmoud Sarban told reporters in a press conference with the head of the province’s Jihad Agricultural Organization on November 26:
The production of cheap and competitive products is one of the most important features
of this product so that producers can compete with emerging competitors such as China and Afghanistan,
which will soon enter global saffron markets. They can stand.
He mentioned the adaptation to desert climates and water-scarce areas due to high water consumption efficiency,
high job creation and high economic value and suitable currency for the country as important features of saffron product.
Sarban said:
Khorasan Razavi with a cultivated area of 6500 hectares and production of 243 tons,
is the first place in the production of saffron in the country and the world,
but unfortunately during the last two decades,
with increasing cultivated area from about 18 thousand hectares in 1991 to 54 One thousand hectares,
the average production per unit area has decreased from about six kilograms per hectare to 3.5 kilograms per hectare.
