Beginning of saffron harvest from 1500 hectares in Gonabad city
The director of Gonabad Agricultural Jihad announced the beginning of saffron flower harvest in the farms of this city.
Alireza Hosseinzadeh, stating that the harvest of saffron flowers in Gonabad will continue until the 5th of December, said: 1500 hectares of agricultural lands in Gonabad city are under saffron flower cultivation.
He stated that Gonabad saffron farms are facing water shortage problem, he said: Irrigation of saffron farms in this city that were facing water shortage problem was done with the participation of people by tanker.
Director of Gonabad Agricultural Jihad added: Due to the continuation of the drought phenomenon, the amount of irrigation to agricultural lands and gardens in the city has decreased.
Regarding the reasons for the 50% decrease in the price of saffron flowers compared to before the harvest time, he said: The price of saffron is determined by a set of supply and demand, and the reduction in the price of saffron flowers can not be considered effective in reducing the final price of this product in the consumer market.
Hosseinzadeh also added: It is predicted that 5 kg of straw saffron will be harvested per hectare in Gonabad.
