70% share of Iranian saffron with exports

In the first five months of this year, our country has exported more than 17 thousand 810 tons of spices worth 94 million 567 thousand 581 dollars, of which saffron with half a percent of total weight, 70 percent of the export value of spices.

Seyed Ruhollah Latifi said: In the world, various spice items such as turmeric, pepper, cinnamon, ginger, etc. are produced, and countries such as India, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia are leaders in the production of these products.
Meanwhile, our country has witnessed significant growth in the production and export of various spices in recent years, while factories, food production industries and even medical institutions are other major consumers of this type of food.
Export statistics of these products of our country show the growth of spice exports; As in the first five months of this year, it shows that more than 17 thousand 810 tons of various spices worth 94 million 567 thousand 581 dollars have been exported.

The Secretary of the Customs Information Council added: Our country has exported spices to 43 countries, including the Republic of Azerbaijan, England, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Kuwait, Qatar, Afghanistan, Turkey, Armenia, Germany, Pakistan, UAE, Hong Kong. Congo, Italy, Japan, India, Netherlands, Indonesia, France, Switzerland and so on.

Latifi continued: The main destinations for Iranian spices are Pakistan, Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates, respectively. Meanwhile, our country’s export products include turmeric, saffron, cumin, fennel seeds, savory seeds, peppers, cardamom, the share of Iranian saffron exports with more than 75 tons amounted to 66 million 476 thousand and 423 dollars.

Referring to the amount of spices imported, the customs spokesman added: During this period, our country has imported 15 thousand and 442 tons of spices worth 28 million and 372 thousand and 200 dollars from 11 countries, of which 5 million and 208 thousand and $ 812 was the import of ginger.

Latifi added: India, UAE, Austria, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Nigeria, China, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Vietnam, Turkey are the countries that export spices to our country, among which most imports have been from India, UAE and China. Meanwhile, our country’s imported products are cinnamon, pepper, nutmeg, chopped cloves, cardamom, ginger and turmeric.
