30 hectare area increase under saffron cultivation in Sirjan

The director of Sirjan Agricultural Jihad said:
the area under saffron cultivation has increased from 60 hectares last year to 93 hectares in this city.

Akbar Mahmoudabadi in Sirjan announced the beginning of saffron harvest in this city from today and said:
Due to the suitable climate of this city for saffron planting and low water requirement of this product and profitability for farmers,
saffron planting has been well received.

He added:
So that the planting of this crop has increased from last year,
which was 60 hectares, to 93 hectares in the city this year.

Director of city Agricultural Jihad added:
190 kg of saffron is produced from 93 hectares of cultivated area and saffron growers sell this amount of saffron
for 11 billion and 500 million Rials.

He stated:
During the 6 weeks of harvesting, 200 people are employed per hectare for harvesting
and a total of 18,000 people are working in saffron harvesting every day.

Sirjan city is located in the west of Kerman province and in a wide plain.
Two mountain ranges are stretched from the Zagros heights in the eastern and western part of the city and the vast plain , which has an area of 18481 square kilometers, is spread between these two mountain ranges.
The climate of city is semi-desert with cold and dry winters and mild summers.
