There is a capacity to expand saffron cultivation in Markazi province
Mahmoud Nemati stated: Six hectares of agricultural lands in this province are under saffron cultivation, which can also be developed, and more than 637 kg of saffron is produced annually in different parts of the province.
He continued: more than 716 hectares of agricultural lands in Markazi province are under cultivation of Mohammadi flowers, of which 1,400 tons have been harvested this year.
The Director General of the Economic and International Affairs Office of the Central Governorate stated: 1,600 tons of various herbal medicines are cultivated every year in different parts of the province, and special attention to this sector is an important step towards generating wealth and creating sustainable employment.
He said: Due to the lack of water in Markazi province, the development of low-water crops such as medicinal plants can be an important step towards saving water while maintaining the province’s agricultural capacity.
