Serves: 5 people
Ingredients for Chia Seed Syrup with Saffron
- Chia seeds: 1/3 cup
- Cold water: 5 cups
- Rose water: 2 tablespoons
- Sugar: 1/4 cup
- Saffron: 1 teaspoon
Step 1:
To prepare the syrup, start by washing the chia seeds. Place them in a bowl and cover with enough water to completely soak them. Let the chia seeds soak for about 15 minutes.
Step 2:
Place the chia seeds in a fine sieve and rinse them thoroughly until clean.
Step 3:
For the saffron syrup, crush the saffron and place it in a small bowl with a couple of ice cubes, allowing the ice to melt. This process will help release the vibrant color and flavor of the saffron.
Step 4:
In a saucepan, combine the sugar and 2 cups of water. Heat the mixture until the sugar dissolves completely. Once the syrup thickens slightly, add the rose water and saffron, then remove the pan from heat and allow it to cool.
Step 5:
Place the soaked chia seeds, saffron syrup, and the remaining cold water into a jug. Stir well and add a few ice cubes for extra chill. Your refreshing drink is now ready to serve.
Alternative: Saffron Syrup with Orange Blossom Water
For an added layer of fragrance, you can substitute a hint of orange blossom water. Follow the same process as above but add 1/3 cup of orange blossom water when you mix in the chia seeds. Stir everything well for a delightful and aromatic flavor combination.
Enjoy your delicious and refreshing saffron-infused chia seed syrup!
