Saffron production in Qom
Qom – Deputy director of improvement of herbal products at Jihad-e-Agriculture Organization of Qom province said that this year 21 kg of saffron was produced in Qom province.
Reza Vakil stated that the cultivated area of saffron in Qom province is 7 hectares. According to the yield per unit area of 3 kg, 21 kg of dry and saffron in Qom province Is produced.
He pointed out that this product is produced in parts of Khalkhistan, Salafchegan and Galaxy, adding that saffron is one of the most expensive plants that will be of great benefit to farmers due to lack of planting costs if they are taken care of every year.
The lawyer stated that planting saffron can employ a huge number of rural women and girls, not only to make employment and to fill their leisure time, but also to make an effective contribution to the household economy.
Pointing out that saffron is a tropical plant, it grows well in places with moderate climates, with warm summers, sunny, autumn and relatively mild winters, saying: Saffron onion does not have summer, Awakening period Its activity is from November to April, and with the start of the heat season its leaves are yellowish and swollen, and the onions are asleep, so the soil with soil texture is also a good place to cultivate saffron.
He also noted the conditions for cultivating saffron, adding that from August to September we can cultivate saffron, after planting the saffron tuber in the land for 7-4 years, and in some areas it remains for 10 years and yields the product and in this regard There is no need for re-planting in the following years.
