909 hectares of saffron cultivation in Yazd province last year
Akbar Sheikh Alishahi, director of horticulture of Yazd Jihad Agricultural Organization,
announced the harvest of more than 3 tons of dry saffron in Yazd, and called the area of saffron cultivation in Bahabad city 418 hectares,
Abarkooh 112 hectares, Taft 109 hectares, Bafgh 77 hectares and Mehriz 75 hectares.
The lowest of which is related to Yazd city with eight hectares.
The director of horticulture of Yazd Jihad Agricultural Organization,
pointing out that one hectare of saffron farms provides direct employment for one person, stated:
Saffron produced in the province is of high quality due to suitable weather and soil conditions and Yazd is among
the producing provinces This product is in sixth place.
Sheikh Alishahi continued:
Saffron is one of the less water-loving plants with a seven-year yield, and in order to regain its yield,
the plant onion must be replaced after seven years.
He stated that more than four thousand farming families are active in saffron production, he said:
the time of cultivation of this plant is September and the harvest will begin in the second half of November
in some areas of the province and until the end, according to the weather conditions. December continues.
