750 kg of saffron is produced annually in Marand city

The director of Jihad-e-Keshavarzi of Marand special city, stating that Marand saffron has been introduced as the best saffron in the country, said: 750 kg of saffron is produced annually in Marand.

Manouchehr Rahmani, while stating this matter, added: saffron cultivation has a high job creation because most of the planting and holding stages are done by hand and manpower.

Referring to the amount of saffron cultivation in this city, he said: 184 hectares of saffron are cultivated in Marand city and an average of 750 kg of saffron is produced annually and 7 billion and 500 million Tomans are earned from the sale of saffron in the city.

The director of Jihad Agriculture of Marand city emphasized: Marand saffron festival will be held with the aim of increasing the motivation of producers, introducing top saffron workers and transferring experiences and holding training workshops and most importantly introducing Marand saffron.

He continued: in some provinces, 30 kg of saffron is harvested from each hectare, but this amount is only seven kg in Marand city, which can be increased by holding festivals, training courses and scientific visits.

According to him, if we have produced the best saffron but are not able to market it, we will not have succeeded, but if we market and sell it better, this product will develop in the Marand region.

Rahmani, stating that Bonab is the capital of saffron in the northwest of the country, said: We will try to hold the Bonab Marand Saffron Festival in Tehran next year so that we can nationalize the brand of this product nationally and globally.

He stressed: We must seek to use modern technologies to develop saffron cultivation. Today, some countries have increased their share of this crop by expanding the cultivation of this product.

According to the East Azarbaijan Agricultural Jihad Public Relations Report, 300 hectares of land and saffron are cultivated in the whole of East Azerbaijan Province, of which 184 hectares belong to Marand city.
