Iranian saffron has found new competitors
Engineer Asadifar, horticultural director of Khorasan Agricultural Jihad,
denied the rumors that Iranian high-quality saffron onions left the borders of Iran for cultivation in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
He added:
According to the reports we have received, saffron cultivation has become popular
in Pakistan and Afghanistan and we should make more efforts to enter the world markets.
this amount of saffron has been 51 million and 346 thousand dollars for the country,
which is the highest figure after pistachios among export goods.
Regarding saffron cultivation in the world and its effect on the Iranian market, he said:
The phenomenon of drought has forced different countries to cultivate crops to be drought
resistant and saffron is currently cultivated and produced in several countries.
He said that the highest amount of saffron in the world after Iran came from India and its amount was 9 tons per year.
He said that the export of high quality saffron in accordance with international standards has led to the loss of the market
for this product in the world and noted.
We must prepare, dry and package our saffron as a standard.
The director of horticulture of Khorasan Agricultural Jihad considered the position of saffron
in the economy of low-income families of Khorasan province as very important and said that drought is the reason for increasing
the reliance of these families on saffron.
He added:
Saffron has been cultivated in 21 cities of Khorasan this year,
and the cities of Tarbiat Heydariyeh, Kashmar, Gonabad,
Ghaen and Ferdows have played a greater role in the production of saffron in the province.
