The director of horticulture affairs of Hamedan Jihad-e-Agriculture Organization announced the production of more than 270 kg of saffron in the province and said: this year more than 270 kg of saffron has been produced in the province, which is an unprecedented figure.
Hojjatullah Shahbazi, stating that this year 87.4 hectares of farms in the province have been planted with saffron, said: the area of saffron cultivation has increased by 30 hectares in the past 2 years and serious development of saffron cultivation is in the plans of the Jihad Agriculture Organization.
He specified: The highest area of saffron cultivation is in Malayer city with 36 hectares and the lowest level is in Kaboudrahang city with 1.7 hectares.
He pointed out that last year 197 kg of saffron was produced in the province, reminded: this year due to increased cultivation and increased yield, the yield has increased so that the yield per hectare has increased from 3.8 kg to 4.3 kg.
Shahbazi, emphasizing that the condition of saffron export is significant production, said: 87.4 hectares of saffron cultivation area is in the form of 229 exploitation units, most of the units are under one hectare, the production of which is between one to 2 kg and we can not export this amount. He said: Saffron is one of the medicinal plants whose quality depends on the climate and Hamedan province as the main source of saffron has the best climatic conditions to obtain an active ingredient with high quality.

Shahbazi, pointing out that the net income of saffron cultivation per hectare is more than 15 million tomans, said: saffron cultivation has a high cost in the first year, but until 6 years later, costs will be lower.
