Beginning of saffron harvest from 20 hectares in Karzan city of Ilam
The farmer of Karzan district of Sirvan city of Ilam has dedicated seven thousand meters of his family arable lands and gardens to saffron onion cultivation for four years. Karaminejad uses the basement of his garden to grow saffron onions, and according to him, an average of one kilogram of saffron is harvested annually.
Now, several years have passed since the first saffron onion cultivation in Ilam province, and this flower, in disbelief due to the climatic differences of Ilam and Khorasan with the geographical conditions of the region, became accustomed and bore fruit.
Currently, 20 hectares of arable lands in Ilam province in Sirvan, Chardavol and Badreh counties have been planted with this crop, and this year’s harvest forecast indicates 22 kg of saffron stigmas.
The harvest season of this beautiful and tasty red gold has arrived in different parts of the country, including Ilam, and it is time for the beautiful purple flower of saffron to respond to the farmer’s efforts by donating its stigma.
