Farshid Manouchehri stated: Sargol premium saffron is bought from Iranian farmers for about 4 million Tomans per kilogram and with a 15% cost and profit for Iranian traders, about 5 million Tomans per kilogram is sold to the Chinese, but the price of this product in the Chinese retail market is 15,000 kilograms. It is a dollar that if we calculate the free dollar rate around 3000 Tomans, we can consider a profit of 40 million Tomans for the Chinese.
He said that in some cases, Iranian traders make such a profit by supplying saffron to retail markets in the world, adding: One of the reasons for the high price of this product is that in the European market and countries like China, saffron is viewed as an organic medicinal plant. On the other hand, high saffron import tariffs can be one of the reasons for this price difference.
The secretary of the National Saffron Council said: In other countries importing Iranian saffron, the price of each kilogram of saffron in their retail market is very different from the purchase price of this product from farmers.
Manouchehri continued: For example, in the retail market of European countries, each kilogram of premium Iranian saffron is priced from 8000 to more than 10 thousand dollars, which shows that this product is also very important for Europeans.
