20% increase in saffron production in Sirjan city
Saffron harvesting work was completed from 35 hectares of farms in Sirjan city, and with a 20% increase in this crop,
more than 4 billion rials were earned.
Masoudi, the director of Sirjan Agricultural Jihad, stated:
The saffron harvest started in mid-October and has now ended with an average harvest of 3 kg per hectare.
He pointed out that we had more than 100 kg of saffron production in Sirjan city, adding:
Considering the planting level of more than 100 kg of saffron production in the city,
the production of this product has increased by 20% compared to last year.
The director of Sirjan Agricultural Jihad stated:
Currently, with more than 50 saffron exploiters,
200 people were working during the harvest period and the income is estimated at more than four billion rials.
Masoudi continued:
Due to the climatic conditions and fertile lands in the areas of Hamashahr and Paris, these areas are capable of planting saffron.
He continued:
In addition to these areas, Sirjan Agricultural Jihad sought to develop the planting of this crop in the lands downstream of the Tanguyeh Dam,
and through negotiations with agricultural representatives of these areas,
it was decided that more than 120 hectares of land in these areas under cultivation of horticultural crops
They are faced with the problem of water restriction. Planting saffron was replaced.
The director of Sirjan Agricultural Jihad added:
With this measure and by removing worn-out gardens, while making optimal use of water and soil resources in terms of income generation
and job creation, it has a great impact on the household economy of the mentioned areas.
Masoudi pointed out:
The only difficulty for saffron farmers to plant this crop in Sirjan is the lack of processing industries,
which can be solved with the efforts of provincial officials.
