Unhealthy competition in Khorasan saffron exports

A member of the faculty of the Khorasan Razavi Food Science and Technology Research Institute said:
The main problem in saffron exports is unhealthy competition between exporters.

Abbas Hemmati Kakhki stated:
Our main problem in the saffron sector is the export of saffron in bulk,
which is due to the existence of unscientific and unhealthy competition between domestic traders.

He continued:
Domestic traders export a large part of saffron in bulk and at low prices to Spain and Dubai to compete with each other,
and this causes Iranian saffron with the Spanish brand to be exported to other European countries.

Hemmati Kakhki, stating that the added value of one kilo of saffron is much higher than the price of saffron itself, clarified:
If we can export saffron under the Iranian brand, traders and exporters will certainly benefit more,
but unfortunately the existence of unhealthy competition, the country’s exporters.
It has left the added value of saffron untouched.

A faculty member of the Khorasan Razavi Food Science and Technology Research Institute said:
If there is a real union in the field of saffron and its members unite with each other and prevent unhealthy competition,
Iran can easily overtake Spain.
As long as exporters export saffron in bulk, Spain will naturally want to import Iranian bulk saffron,
because in this way a lot of added value goes to Spain.
