Allocation of UNIDO credit to Iranian saffron
The director of horticulture of the Khorasan Razavi Agricultural Jihad Organization announced the allocation of $ 2 million
from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to improve the sustainability of saffron in the country.
Mohammad Reza Ghodsi in a press conference of the head of Jihad Keshavarzi Organization announced this news:
considering the importance of saffron product in the world.
Ghodsi continued:
The selection and training of supervisors of saffron and health processing and healthy and organic products
are the second and third stages in this cooperation program.
He continued:
in the third phase, launching 20 saffron sanitary processing workshops in the pilot villages along with equipping.
The horticulture director of the Jihad Agricultural Organization of the province announced
the implementation of the ideal saffron farms project in the province and said:
100 and 75 hectares in the cities and saffron cultivation areas of the province, respectively.
He pointed out:
This plan is based on strict observance of technical instructions, including the appropriate planting time and season,
the use of standard onions and above eight grams, appropriate planting density,
technical care in the period and proper nutrition,
He said:
which according to visits and reports, the results of farms have been very successful.
Referring to saffron cultivation in 22 provinces of the country in a limited way, he said:
77% of the country’s saffron lands belong to Khorasan Razavi, 19% to South Khorasan and only 4% to other provinces.
He stated:
Saffron has 10% of the value of horticultural and agricultural products in the province and is an honorable,
employment-generating product with high efficiency in water consumption.
