According to the Ministry of Jihad Agriculture’s National Medicinal Plants Project, Iran’s share of foreign markets is very small, while the turnover of medicinal plants in the world is estimated at $ 120 billion, which is a small amount for Iran. Statistics show that the turnover of saffron in the world is eight billion dollars, while the turnover of Iranian saffron is only 300 million dollars, and despite the fact that more than 85% of the world’s saffron is produced in Iran, this red gold has not yet been commercialized.
At present, 600,000 people in the form of 160,000 households make a living from saffron cultivation in the country, of which 90,000 jobs are in Razavi and South Khorasan. On the other hand, according to the Minister of Jihad for Agriculture, the employment-generating capacity of saffron in the country is very high, and one hectare of saffron creates 200 jobs per day per year.
But a significant point in the field of saffron production and export is an issue raised by economic experts. They believe that the production and export capacity of saffron in Iran is more than twice the current statistics. However, the missing links in the saffron field, from planting and harvesting to packaging and export, have prevented producers from using all their power to produce and export this valuable product, so much so that it is said that Spanish traders They launch the product with a new packaging and in their own name.
