70 kg of saffron is harvested from the farms of West Azerbaijan

Rasoul Jalili, stating that saffron is one of the most important export products of Iran,
with the production and export of which significant foreign exchange enters the country every year, added:
Considering the microclimate in this West Azerbaijan province,
which is very similar to the climate of South Khorasan and on the other hand due to the low need
of this plant for water and irrigation during the summer, the development of cultivation of this crop in the province has begun and is increasing.

He continued by stating that during the last few years, the area under cultivation of this crop in the province has increased to about 45 hectares
and its yield to about 5 kg per hectare:
Miandoab, Shut, Piranshahr and Salmas have the highest area under cultivation of this crop in the West Azerbaijan province.

The head of the Jihad Agricultural Organization of the province added:
Saffron is one of the medicinal plants and the development of cultivation of water-deficient medicinal plants is also one of the priorities
of the Jihad Agricultural Organization.
